Hello! I currently am working on a book of essays to benefit typhoon survivors, but I still have yet to name a specific beneficiary. Might any of you be able to suggest a NPO or NGO that focuses on rebuilding and rehabilitation of affected communities? Or might you know people I can contact for this? Thanks!

Stefan, I believe we should focus on one community at a time and help them learn how to fish so we can move on to the next community. I can help in the education of the children via video materials we have produced for children ie Filipino Language development for 3-6 yrs old (SIRIT) and responsible pet ownership (Petko). I have been occupied these past months but I can meet up with you so I can show you the materials.

hmmm well we better start fixing the problem which is humanity in general and their contribution to the destruction of our environment. Push for restellment, cleaning of waterways etc. We may have mended the wound but the problem is still ever present if we don't bring down our carbon footprints.

Well there's nothing in the news that I'm aware of. Articles like this get picked up:
<a href="http://globalnation.inquirer.net/news/breakingnews/view/20091119-237218/EC-donates-7M-euros-anew-for-Ondoy-victims" target="_blank">http://globalnation.inquirer.net/news/breakingnew...</a>

But not much about the current status of initiatives started- evacuation, where goods are being distributed, etc.. again - no follow through! Not even in news. There's a few like this:

<a href="http://www.gmanews.tv/story/177183/philippine-firms-prepare-for-the-next-ondoy-and-pepeng" target="_blank">http://www.gmanews.tv/story/177183/philippine-fir...</a>

People ARE keeping their eyes out for more disasters: <a href="http://www.gmanews.tv/story/176943/2-3-cyclones-to-visit-rp-in-coming-weeks-pagasa" target="_blank">http://www.gmanews.tv/story/176943/2-3-cyclones-t...</a>

...but this is why it's so important to get involved. Because you CAN know first hand what is happening in places you helped in and are monitoring yourselves. With that said, I'll shoot an email to Gene and ask him how Ciudad and Kaingin are post Ondoy and Pagoyo post Santi and give you a report....

Great post. It shows how part of the nations inability to follow through is because the news we read doesn't follow through either.

Hi there - thank you for keeping the spirit alive. For people like me who are far away - I live in Vancouver, Canada - I don't know how we're progressing or degressing in the aftermath of the 4 Typhoons that plagued our country consecutively: Ondoy, Parma, Lupit, and Santi. I would really like to be updated on how we're doing so far. Are the victims still living in gymnasiums, have the flood waters receded, is there any type of rebuilding that's being facilitated, are there further casualties from water-borne diseases? My 332 balikbayan relief boxes just cleared customs last Saturday and are being repacked and redistributed, but the real work is in rebuilding lives. Because I live so far, I am not exposed to the ongoing issues nor any progress that has transpired since the natural calamities hit our nation. Please keep me posted with pictures or narratives - I really need to be kept abreast of how we're doing, how we're holding up, if we're holding up. I am a very concerned citizen. Maraming Salamat po.
